Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a new head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
