Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
